He has received MA in economics from Moscow State University in 1982 with specialization on “History of Economic Thought”. His MA Thesis paper was “Debates on Economic Planning in India”. Subsequently, he received a PhD in economics from Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1985. His Ph.D Thesis was on “Agriculture in the System of Social Reproduction in Bangladesh”.
He has received extensive training through various short duration courses on economic issues, STATA-based econometrics, and impact evaluation provided by the World Bank, including a successful completion of Harvard Senior Executive Training Program on economic development conducted by the Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University in May 2009.
